OMGs LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! [Oct. 21st, 2006|12:29 pm]
The Official Tora-con Informer
WOW, it's been a while!
There’s much to report about this time!

Halloween is this coming week, BTW, so show up at club in costume! It will be AWESOME. Oh, and of course prizes! So cool!

Anyway, the ball is rolling ladies and gentlemen! That’s right! TORA CON PLANNING IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY! And oh how exciting it is. We are already in the workings of negotiating with ultra awesome guests for this year and may or may not have a few of them ready to come! What does this mean for you? Well, until we can uber, double MXC-Ultimately make sure, we can’t tell you who they are, but they are AWESOME, so cross your fingers! It’s going to be exciting!

Also, be sure to go on our Forums and try to suggest things – showings, events or even panels (who knows, if it’s a good idea we might use it!) Consumer feedback is always a plus, sp be sure to tell us what you think, what interests you and even what you think worked out last year.

OH WOW, it’s officially started! If you are an RIT student, you know that the Weeks of Doom are upon us, and so art on the side may be a bit of a duty And that is exactly what break is for. RIT gave us a break so we could make super shiny art for Tora-con, that’s the whole reason, really! Or at least that’s why it’s longer this year. No, really >_>.
But yes, if you are good, or decent, or just entertained by drawing, submit to us some of your stuff, your kids stuff if you want, and maybe we’ll use it if you’re work. We might even ask you to put it on a flier, shirt or banner! If we get enough art, and the permissions from the artists, we might even make an art book this year! If you are feeling extremely motivated you can even ask us for information about becoming a Staff Artist.
So truly think about it. It can be anything RIT, Tiger, Tora-con or just plain Fan-art. Submit it through one of the following:
Hand a digital (CD) version of it to one of the E-board members at club (preferred)
Email it to any of the e-board (listed at http://www.animehost.rit.edu/eboard )
Snail mail it (a CD is preferred but the original, or a high quality color copy might be acceptable) to:
Anime Club
Rochester Institute of Technology
127 Lomb Memorial Drive
Rochester, NY 14623

On the note of artwork, the ultimate awesome achievement and honor would be, for those of you interested in making art who also happen to like designing just a little, design us a shiny new webpage! Now, while an outstanding task at first sight what we need can be summarized as:
a ‘main’ illustration or image that can be used as a backdrop or a logo, last year this was RITA, but doesn’t have to be this year.
A layout (if you cant program it that’s fine, just design it) that should be able to include tab capabilities for guests, schedules, etc.
A color scheme that you think fits your art, RIT, Anime Club and/or Tora-con, this can be entirely up to you.
And any other shinies you think will look nice (without overdoing it)
The thing about the website is that we need this ASAP. Our site will be up and running before you know it and wont look pretty at first (this might inspire you). So basically, the layout doesn’t need to be over the top, but should include some form of image.

And then, of course is the AMV CONTEST. While I don’t have all the information on this, I will update and let you know as soon as the information is made available. But in that regards, start planning and making an AMV for the contest (a huge success last year).
Submissions to this will be much the same as the art, but will most likely have a preferred medium like .avi. again, this will be put up as soon as I can get the details. If you are into this though, it will be up on all the major AMV gathering places on the intar-webs.

And that’s it for me!

Yikes! Quite a lot to say there huh?

Onening DAY! [Jul. 26th, 2006|08:02 am]
The Official Tora-con Informer
[mood |busy]

In addition to the Tora-con informer giving you an inside scoop on what’s to come at Tora-con we’ll give you a little information about other events going on at the RIT Anime Club, such as dance parties or social nights.

Although it’s belated, the first matter at hand is to commend everyone on a successful Tora-con 2006! Everything went very smoothly and we couldn’t have been happier to have so many people come to our little one-day convention. The AMV contest was a huge success for our first year doing it! We had many people enter and they were great. Thank you all!

Our cosplay event was also a huge success and our entrants looked so good! Skits and costumes awed and entertained us (as they are so good at doing). With our Al in the Box, Legend of Zelda skit, vampires and J-pop singers (we really had so many this past year)!

The game tournaments, though long and ferocious fights to the death, also appeared to run smoothly. Many a Pikachu and Ivy clashed, but the blood aside, it was honorable- fighting.

Name That Tune, an experimental new game we made had lots of participation and we hope to make it more interesting this upcoming Tora-con.

Also at Tora-con was a showing of the acclaimed My Neighbor Totoro by Ghilbli Studio and Disney! Indeed, we showed it, and it was delicious (and by that I mean good).

HOW CAN WE FORGET! Pine*am came to Tora-con! Even Pac-man raved to their smooth hits! It’s true, Pine*am came all the way to Rochester, New York to perform to Otaku of the Anime Generation (or just plain Otaku)! Pine*am was great to us and was willing to sign autographs and just talk to many people (their English was amazing folks), out of the kindness of their hearts. They even had a conversation with the crowd in Japanese when on stage! We are very grateful to Pine*am and their sexy tee-shirts!

What is this? Our first bit of Tora-con 2007 news?

Do you want your art on Tora-con fliers, posters or the website? Are you at least considering it? WELL! Then you have exactly the right idea because our Tora-con art contest is opening up bright and early this year! If you want to submit your Tora-con fanart (Tigers, tiger-chicks, tiger mechas, patterns, etc…) then you’ve come to the right place! Get your sketchpad, wacom tablet or origami creation set ready and start trucking! The first ten entrants this year will get honorable mention in our brochure and their art guaranteed* on something RIT Anime Club! RITA, our RIT Tora-con’s mascot tiger, is an understandable one and is willing to let you use your submissions to RIT Anime on resumes or in your portfolio (if your art is used). Understand though, that any and all artwork used by the Anime Club is subject to resizing/tweaking to fit the medium we need/desire to use it in **.

*We can and will exclude any and all art that is pornographic and not suiting of all-ages viewing. We are an all-ages friendly convention and will not tolerate vulgar images to promote our convention.
**If you have a problem with this policy then we suggest you not submit your art to us, but rather make it for your own personal purposes.

Thank you all and Hope to see you at Tora-con 2007!
